Girl Games

On my great and triumphant quests through the Flash gaming websites of the internet, I have been consistently finding sites with the same 8 or so general categories (action, puzzle, etc.). This makes them seem rather artificial and automated with very little thought but into them, but it's forgivable. However, the big thing that actually does upset me about these generic sections is one section in particular...Girl Games. Yeah, in fairness, I'm not a girl, so one would think that I wouldn't like these games. Sure, but let's take a look at these games shall we? Most of them are dress-up, coloring, and cooking games. I don't know about you, but I find these games to be largely stereotypical and borderline sexist. "Oh, you're a female? Heh, here you go, this game takes place right where a woman belongs...in the kitchen." Seriously, I hate girl games.

What I found very interesting was that the Sugar Toast Facebook page actually proves that a site doesn't need "girl games" to attract girls. 55% of Sugar Toast's fans are actually females, interestingly enough. Yeah, that's right, apparently girls like the pointless, ridiculous, it's-raining-lava-so-quick-save-the-raccoons type games of Sugar Toast more than the ones specifically meant for them on other sites. Who would've guessed that there are actually girls living on this earth that are actually interesting? "What's that you say? A girl who is capable of having her own unique interests and hobbies??? But I thought all they cared about was looking pretty and making sandwiches! This is an outrage!" Well, too bad for you.

My main conclusion here is that putting "girl games" full of dress-up games as a site category is just as unneeded as putting "guy games" full of guns and trucks as a site category. However, I oddly never see this "guy games" category. Why is this? Perhaps it is you, rival game sites, that is responsible for creating the horrible, conformist society that we live in today. Well, it's either you or our awful education system. Hmmm...maybe both...or we can just do the conformist thing and blame the president. Yeah, that works.
